Soooo......real talk time!! Why should you invest a big chunk of change in to your wedding photography?
I mean, all of your friends have fantastic cameras’ these days so they could do just as great a job right?
Well, in my experience this is often not the case and certainly wasn’t for me. Over my 10 years of doing this now and over 450 weddings I can honestly tell you wedding photography is a skill unlike any other form of photography. You need to be in the right place at the right time and you need to know how to photograph in all situations and all lights. You have very little control but have to seem in control but without becoming ‘that guy’, you know the photographer that everyone talks about afterwards because they were a total tool who ruined the day for the guests.
Choosing to invest your money in your wedding photography can be a tough decision especially if, like me, you are not that keen on having your photograph taken.
In fact that was one of the reasons I opted to have my friend shoot my wedding and then I quickly and painfully learnt the value of good wedding photography (I wasn’t a photographer back then). I even wrote an article all about it for Rock n Roll Bride a few years back.
The key thing I’ve learnt is that as much as your wedding is about you this is not just about you! It’s a shocker of a concept!
These photographs will go on to form part of your family history for years to come. They will be seen and poured over by future generations. They will provoke those “Who’s this person” type chats that mean that the people at your wedding are recorded and remembered for all of history.
Watch out, this is where shit gets real.
There is no way to avoid this (I’m sorry) but sadly as life progresses we lose people along the way and wedding photographs are often some of the last professional images of those people you love. I know, I’ve been there and sadly so have many of my customers. Life sucks sometimes.

This is why I work the way I do, I want you to spend time with your guests on your day. To soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the fact that all those people are gathered in one place just because they love you. Those people may never all be in the same place again. That’s a brain melter!
I want to give you great candid’s of those people, who are so important to you, being themselves. Relaxed and having fun not just forced in to formal shots, this is why I shoot constantly and return so many images. For me it’s about the parts of the day you didn’t see. Your crazy friend chatting to your great uncle, kids dragging reluctant parents to the dance floor, friends smashing the shots, the Best Man busting out the break dancing.
To me, those are the photographs that really count. The ones that you can feel when you look at them.
Those shots are what I love about my job.
